I actually wouldnt mind if some of Microsofts many studios started making TES spin-offs similar in concept to Redguard. And the main lore reasong to give this game a shot is the fact that it takes place during the rule and conquest of Tiber Septim, which allows us to see him from the perspective of the conquered, which is widely different from the "hero/God" perspective we have grown accustumed to.

The game is also really interesting in terms of lore as it shows us the Forebears/Crowns conflict as it was happening and mainly from the Crowns perspective, who are traditionally considered to be the bad guys. Stros Mkai itself is also still kind of beutifull three decades later and I cant wait to return in a more modern and hopefully a lot more polished game. I would say Redguard is kind of like the younger, naive and over-confident version of a modern Elder Scrolls title. The game is Todd through and through, but it feels different to modern TES games. As this is the first TES game directed by Todd Howard, it also holds historical significance. In many ways it feels like a game completely written and designed by Sheogorath, with both the good and the bad that implies.Īll the times I died because Cyrus got stucked positioning himself to collect "5 GOLD PIECES" or because the gamespeed sometimes changes randomly or because the jumping puzzles could be used as a torture device were outweight by the genuine wonder I felt exploring the city and talking to all its residents and experiencing dialogues lot more interesting than in most main-line titles. While Skyrim was mostly dark and gloomy, Redguard is just so cheerfull and never takes itself too seriously. In this game I had experienced some of the funniest interactions ever in a video-game. In main-line titles most NPCs are pretty much blank with little to no personality, but here they are all so lovably bizzare and very memorable. The characters are goofy as hell, with bizzare voice-acting spiced up with abysmal audio-quality, but I love pretty much all of them.

The game just has certain charm, that no other Elder Scrolls game has. The game is really difficult to play, not because the game is so hard, but because pretty much everything in it is broken in some way.ĭespite all of this I have a really soft spot in my hearth for Redguard. Incredibly clunky, near impossible to control, run at like 15FPS and at every loadin-screen the game decides to ear-rape me for some fucking reason. I have recently been replaying Redguard, mainly because its now all but confirmed we will be visiting Hammerfell in TES VI and I really needed to scratch that curved sword itch.
